Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance – CEIAG

Intent

  • To prepare students for life after school and encourage them to increase their aspirations through meaningful encounters and tailored support.
  • To utilise local colleges, businesses, staff and family knowledge to support young people in making informed decisions about their futures. Keeping all stakeholder informed throughout.

Implementation

  • SMSC: This covers a wide range of content including careers. These sessions use Unifrog and allow students to build knowledge of who they are, what they are interested in and what future career they might be interested in.
  • Careers Advisor (Hampshire Futures): A specialist careers advisor is in school twice a week to offer students and parents independent and impartial advice for their careers and life after they leave school.
  • Colleges: Encounters with colleges for assemblies and workshops where they will offer advice and information about college, and whether it is right for you.
  • Apprenticeship Providers: PETA, BAE and NHS are some names of companies' students will encounter participate in talks and workshops all to inform students of the alternative post-16 options and supporting the application process.
  • Universities: Taster Days and workshops are offered to students across all year groups. These include campus tours, budgeting, assemblies and 1:1 meetings.
  • Employers and Employees: Through our close connections with local businesses and support from EBP we have several businesses that offer a variety of meaningful encounters through work experience, assemblies and workshops.
  • Curriculum links: Teachers are informed on how their subject can be utilised in a student's chosen career path and are able to provide support – or direct them to a more suitable advisor.
  • Park Development Days: Whole days off curriculum that include activities that will support students in understanding the world of work and their employability skills.
  • Carousel: KS3 will participate in a 6-week programme where they will understand how some businesses work and they will develop a project with them. These include visiting the schools farm, the school kitchen and the schools own printing shop.

Impact

  • Reduction in those students who are not in education, employment or training (NEET) when leaving school.
  • Students will be informed and ready to attend their post-16 options and excited about the future.
  • Students applying to and being accepted onto a wide range of courses from A Levels to apprenticeships and T-Levels.
  • Increased aspirations and enthusiasm when discussing their life after school.

As a school, we use Unifrog which is a univeral destinations platform and community that supports schools in delivering outstanding careers guidance to students.

Unifrog proveides impartial and up-to-date information on the full range of post-6 and post-8 options, all in one place. Unifrog also provides students with the most comprehensive database of apprenticeshups across the country and at all qualification levels.

Once students have explored their interests and compared the full range of pathways avaiable, unifrog provides the writing tools and guidance to help them draft applications including CVs and personalo statements.

Every parent/carer can have their own login to Unifrog platform, where they can access tools and resources to support their childen to make informed decisions about the next steps.
